About the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat
With the grail of offloading the weight from brilliant but needy students, the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat was established. This is a free scholarship for students in second cycle institutions, qualified Ghanaian workers in foreign institutions and also, post graduates training locally in public tertiary institutions.
The Scholarship program falls under these areas; Human Resource Development, Employment and prductivity under The Ghana Shared Growth and Development Agenda (GSGDA) and Goal 4 of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Goals addresses these specific arears;
- Provision of quality education
- Human Capital Development, Productivity and Labour Relations, thus providing for the manpower needs of the country.
The Scholarship seeks to strengthen the human resource capacity. Also, increase access to participation in quality education at all levels and bridge the gender gap to education.
The Human Resource deficit in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is been fully acknowledged and strategies have been developed over the years to address the gap in society.
Above all, the Scholarship is totally free and it requires no payment from applicants. That is to say, the secretariat has not engaged any individual, group or Third party entity to assist applicants.
What the Scholarship Covers
In short, the scholarship covers academic facility user fees and tuition fees for all accredited tertiary institutions, both public and private.
Categories of the Scholarship
These are the categories of the scholarship scheme:
- Merit Scholarship
- Hardship Scholarship
- Local Tertiary
- Foreign Tertiary
Who Qualifies to Apply for the Scholarship
This is a free scholarship for students in second cycle institutions, qualified Ghanaian workers in foreign institutions and also, post graduates training locally in public tertiary institutions.
- i. Should have gained admission into a local tertiary institution
- ii. Should have registered and enrolled to undertake the course
Application Deadline
The Ghana scholarship Secretariat opens applications every year for qualified applicants. The application deadline is as follows:
A. Continuing students should apply online between 1St April – 15Th May of each academic year.
B. Also, New students who had late admission should apply between 1st – 30th September of each academic year.

Ghana Scholarship Secretariat Application Requirements
LOCAL TERTIARY SCHOLARSHIPS
A. Applicants are to take note of the following;
- i. Should have gained admission into a local tertiary institution
- ii. Should have registered and enrolled to undertake the course
- iii. The Institution should be accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB)
- iv. Categories of Local Tertiary Institutions (Private and Public)
- v. Nurses/Teacher Training Colleges
- Colleges of Agriculture
- Polytechnics
- Technical Universities
- Universities
- Certificate awarding tertiary institutions
B. Continuing students should apply online between 1St April – 15Th May of each academic year.
C. New students who had late admission should apply between 1st – 30th September of each academic year
D. Applicants will undertake an online aptitude test during the application process.
E. Appear before a panel for interviews in your selected district
F. The information of the applicant will be forwarded to the institutions of the applicant for confirmation and validation.
G. After that, electronic award letters will be issued to the successful applicants by the Scholarships Secretariat.
H. As a result, payment of scholarship entitlements to respective institutions.
FOREIGN TERTIARY SCHOLARSHIPS
A. Information for existing beneficiaries
Existing foreign scholarship beneficiaries will be given a portal to enable them renew their awards annually online.
B. Bilateral Applications
Prospective applicants for bilateral scholarship awards will be required to complete the online application upon confirmation of their awards by the awarding country.
C. Non-Bilateral Scholarship Awards
All applications for non-bilateral awards will be received online when advertised.

- Academic Certificate.

2. Create an account to register
3. Complete the application form and upload academic transcripts, admission letters and academic certificate.
4. After that, complete an online aptitude test and be scheduled for a selection interview in your selected district.
