The Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) is happy to inform students that the Government has opened the SLTF site for the 2021-2022 academic year to accept applications from prospective students who require financial help.
Interested students should go to (www.sltf.gov.gh) to fill out their online applications.
A new government regulation eliminates the need for a guarantor when applying for a student loan in Ghana.
What document are required for the application of students loan
Required document for applying the students loan are as follows:
- Ghana Card
- Ezwich ID
- Admission letter
- Passport Picture
How to Apply for the students loan
Applicants are to visit the official website of SLTF at (http://www.sltf.gov.gh)
Select “Create Account.” and fill in the blanks with your details required.
After you have created an account, go ahead and activate it.

login to start the application, Make sure you fill with your right personal details.
After you are done with the online application, visit any brunch of their office close to your campus for the Biometric verification.
NB: No Money is paid during this process, beware of fraudsters.
How much is given in a student loan in Ghana?
The maximum amount that can be paid to Applicant who apply for the students loan is 3,000 Ghana cedis.
What is the interest rate for the loan?
The student borrower pays 12% and the Government of Ghana pays the difference between the 12% and the prevailing Treasury bill rate. The student borrower’s portion of the interest rate of 12% is calculated and spread over twelve months.
How can I get student loan in Ghana?
You only qualify for student loan in Ghana if
1. You are a Ghanaian
2. You have gained admission to study an accredited tertiary program in an accredited tertiary institution in Ghana.
3. You are pursuing an undergraduate tertiary program such as diploma or degree.
Students pursuing weekend and evening programmes are eligible to apply for the loan.
However, the current policy of the SLTF is that sandwich programme students are not eligible to apply for the loan.
